Bipolar Architecture

Berlin and Istanbul-based progressive post-metal band Bipolar Architecture was founded in 2020 by Sarp Keski. After years of touring together in the death/black metal scene, they decided to do something different and founded the band. Later, Marcus Sander and finally Fatih Kanık joined, and the band already played several international shows with their debut album „Depressionland“, released by Dunk! Records.

After two years of gradually releasing singles, Berlin-based Bipolar Architecture are finally ready to release their second album. Made up of members of the death metal band Heretic Soul, Bipolar Architecture have evolved from the pounding nihilism of their previous band to a style that allows for more variation and nuance—without sacrificing the intensity that got them to this point.

On this new, broader base, they move into both post- and prog-metal, with echoes of prog, black metal, and even spacey post-rock thrown into the mix. The resulting album shows impressive growth and carefully honed songwriting.

„Depressionland“ takes the considerable energy and ferocity these musicians possess and focuses it in a way that offers the listener essential moments of respite across spacious soundscapes—while still maximizing the impact of the heavier elements.

If Depressionland was a distillation of Bipolar Architecture’s signature sounds, 2024’s second album „Metaphysicize“ is alchemical gold. Still determined to play at the edge of extreme metal, Metaphysicize uses the existentialist, introspective themes of Depressionland as fuel for an even deeper, more haunting exploration of the human condition.

Tracks like „Immor(t)al“ and „Dysphoria“ testify to musical maturity and patience, experience gained and lessons learned, while „Disillusioned“ and „Alienated“ shake with all the apocalyptic outrage of the band’s black metal origins.

Significantly, Metaphysicize is also Bipolar Architecture’s first work to feature lyrics in Keski’s native Turkish. The album’s centerpiece, the swirling post-rock tension and breathtaking thrash metal of „Kaygı“, perfectly embodies the album’s dichotic balance between culture, genre, calm, and chaos.

The album will be released on 02.02.2024 by Berlin-based Pelagic Records, the home of great bands of the post-rock / post-metal scene such as The Ocean, Mono, and God is an Astronaut.
